Another week in the bank. Here are my picks for the top five stories of the week:
- Hospitals Adopt Drug Industry Sales Strategy. Hospitals are starting to sell themselves using ole’ pharma tactics!
- Plaintiffs Win Key Ruling On Preemption In Metoclopramide Mass Tort Litigation. A state trial judge in Philadelphia has denied generic drug manufacturers’ motions to dismiss state law claims for injuries allegedly caused by metoclopramide (generic Reglan), rejecting the defendants’ argument that the Supreme Court’s decision in Pliva v. Mensing foreclosed any state law recovery by the plaintiffs.
- Prevalence Of Chronic Pain In Children And Teenagers Growing. Persistent or recurring chronic pain in children may result in missing school and withdrawing from social activities. They are also at risk of developing personalized symptoms like anxiety. A group of researchers has established that more children currently suffer from chronic pain and that chronic pain is more prevalent in girls than boys. The findings are the results of the first comprehensive review of chronic pain in children and adolescents in two decades.
- Tough 2012 For Pharma But Industry Still Rated Highly. Ratings agency Fitch has issued a report saying the pharmaceutical sector will “continue to experience significant operating challenges” in 2012 but while issuing a negative outlook, it will still be one of the highest-rated industries.
